Staff attended a workshop to learn how to use yoga tools to manage classroom behaviors, in addition to an “ocean breath” strategy for students who may be sad, cranky or distracted. Attending the workshop allows Main Street Preschool to have visits from the Yoga Lady in the near future so the children can learn some yoga positions. Here’s what Mrs. Oskey shared with her class parents: …in this workshop we learned routines to help children grow smarter, be happier, and behave better. The workshop taught me a unique blend of yoga based postures, breathing techniques, games, developmental movement exercises, and playful rhymes. These activities will help increase parent-child bonding, as well as teacher-child bonding, and promote an overall healthy lifestyle. Adding these activities to a child’s day will help prevent fewer tantrums and improve sleep, digestion, motor development, and listening skills…. I will start sending home information on these different yoga activities that we are doing in class. This way you have the opportunity to practice them at home with your child. This workshop was funded by a grant from the Troy Foundation.
Main Street Preschool staff embraces the techniques of Appelbaum. Recently another staff member had the opportunity to attend a training led by the prominent Appelbaum Training Institute. Appelbaum Trainers lead seminars and engage audiences from 15-1500 participants. They bring their experience to the seminars and they know the proven strategies to make a difference in classrooms and schools. The 5-hr seminar consisted of topics such as “Inexpensive Ways to Add Pizzazz to Learning Centers,” “Shake, Rattle, & Roll! Great Ways to Boost Brain Smarts,” “Stop Anxiety in Young Children: Social/Emotional Skills to Help Children Be Joyful.”
Main Street Preschool is offering tours so you can learn about class options and other programs such as our very popular after-school program called Lunch Bunch. Call or email the preschool for an appointment.
