This week the Busy Bees have been learning all about fall. We discussed how the weather has been changing and about some other signs we may find to tell us that fall is here. We enjoyed reading Lois Ehlert’s Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf and Steve Metzger’s The Biggest Leaf Pile. The children painted beautiful pictures with some colors we may see outside in the fall. They also had a great time pretending to be scarecrows while we learned a new scarecrow song!

An important skill we will be working on this year is cutting with scissors. This takes most young children quite some time to master, but with plenty of practice they will improve greatly. I encourage you to allow your child to have plenty of supervised time with scissors at home. Perhaps they could help clip coupons, cut pictures out of sale ads, or snip a collage of their own. Using plastic play scissors on play dough can also help to get the motion down pat!
During our Bible story this week we heard the story Noah’s Big Boat. Mr. Jack joined us to sing a song that puts the story of Noah to music, complete with lots of movements. Next week we will be learning about fire safety. See you then!

We have had another great week in the Busy Bee class!  The children are really getting to know the rules and routines as well as one another.  This week we’ve been talking about all of the things that we can do now that we’re getting bigger.  We read a couple of good books, Eric Carle’s From Head to Toe and Lorinda Bryan Cauley’s Clap Your Hands, that had us using good listening skills to follow directions.

On Thursday, we enjoyed getting together with the Shining Star class for our Bible story time.  This week’s story focused on all of the great things that God made, including us!

Dear Parents,
We have had an exciting second week in the Busy Bee class! On Tuesday, we had our first visit from the Story Lady. This visit she read us Seven Blind Mice, we painted with smelly paints, and we played a game that had us guessing what a picture was with just a small piece showing. I hope you enjoyed reading your child’s new book with them as well. The Story Lady will be visiting a couple more times this year, each time with new stories and activities to share!
On Thursdays we will be meeting together with the Shining Star class for a Bible story time. This week we introduced the children to the special room we’ll be meeting in and learned some new songs together!
Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll look forward to seeing you next week!

If you have not already done so, please bring an extra change of clothes to leave in your child’s cubby. Accidents do happen, and we want your child to be as comfortable as possible at school. Thank you!

Mrs. Haley has sent out several preschool-related e-mails. If you have not received these or are unable to open the attachments, please let us know.

We will be talking about ourselves! “All About Me” will give the children the chance to get to know one another even better, and maybe even discover some new things about themselves!

The Busy Bee class is off to a great start to our school year!  We had a wonderful first week at school, learning our way around and learning the rules of our classroom.  Old friends were reconnected and new friendships are forming.  I am excited to see what this year has in store for all of us!

On Tuesday we read Maisy Goes to Preschool.  The children really enjoyed relating to all of the things that happened in Maisy’s school.  On Thursday we read one of my favorite children’s books, The Kissing Hand. Be sure to ask your child about this one!

If your child is going to be missing school for ANY reason, please call the preschool, 669-4707, and let us know.  Thank you!

Have a great weekend!!!

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe, but this is the last Busy Bee newsletter of the year!  I hope that you all enjoyed the program and art gallery last week.  The children were very proud of themselves, and several were still talking about it on Tuesday!

This week we have had a fun week reading some classic stories.  On Tuesday we read Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Our dramatic play area of the room was transformed into the bear’s house, which made for some fun and imaginative play.

Thursday we read some rhymes from a Mother Goose book.  This was also our last Bible story with Mr. Jack.  We had a great time singing and dancing to some of our favorite songs!  Have a great weekend!

Next Tuesday is our bike day!  Please bring a bike, trike, or scooter for your child to ride.  We will do this rain or shine.  If the weather is nice, we may have a bike wash available, so please dress your child accordingly!

Next Thursday will be our end of the year picnic.  All preschool families are invited to meet at Kyle Park (the shelter and playgrounds on the right) from 10:30-12:00.  Please bring a lunch for your family and any outdoor activities you would like to share.  Dessert will be provided.  This has been a fun way to celebrate in years past.  I hope you can join us!

Dear Parents,

Spring program week is a busy one here at the preschool.  The Busy Bees have been working hard on their art for the art gallery and practicing their songs for the show.  They can’t wait to show you all that they have done on Friday!

This week, in honor of Mother’s Day, we have also been talking about mothers.  We read Eric Carle’s Do Kangaroos Have Mothers Too? This is a great repetitive book that preschoolers enjoy reading along with.  I hope you enjoy the program, and I will see you next week!

Please have your child downstairs (by the preschool kitchen) at 10:15.  A slideshow of the children will start shortly after in the Great Hall.

May 20, 10:30, will be our end of the year celebration at Kyle Park.  Bring a lunch for your family and any outdoor toys you would like to share.  Dessert will be provided.  See you there!

Dear Parents,

This week the Busy Bees have been learning about caterpillars and butterflies!  On Tuesday we read one of my favorite books, Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Since several of the children were familiar with the book, they enjoyed “reading along” with me.  We also made caterpillars to display during the spring program.

On Thursday, we enjoyed our Bible story time with the Shining Stars and Mr. Jack.  We also had fun doing some painting activities and working on our songs for our program!  Have a great weekend!

Be sure to mark Friday, May 7 at 10:30 on your calendar.  The children of Main Street Preschool will be performing some of our favorite songs from this year and displaying some art that they have been working on.  There will also be a brief DVD presentation of the children.  Feel free to invite friends and family to this exciting event!

It’s hard to believe that school is almost over!  We will be celebrating a great school year on May 20 at Kyle Park with a picnic for all of our preschool families.  More information to follow!

The Busy Bees are excited for spring to arrive!  This week we have been talking about spring and what spring brings.  On Tuesday we read Splish, Splash, Spring. We found several signs of spring in the book that we could be on the lookout for outside!

On Thursday we enjoyed our weekly Bible story time with the Shining Stars.  Mr. Jack has been teaching us lots of new songs, and he certainly brings a lot of energy too!  We also enjoyed reading another book about spring, When Will It Be Spring? Next week we’ll be talking about Easter!

We want to thank those of you who volunteered your time and donated generously to the Upward basketball concession stand.  We were able to raise some money to put toward plants for our play garden and some new play equipment for the great hall.  Thank you!

With the nicer weather returning, the Busy Bees will be venturing outside more often.  Please be sure to send a jacket for your child and dress them appropriately for outdoor play.

SPRING BREAK: Mar. 29-Apr. 2  No school on these days

The Busy Bees have had a fabulous week at school!  This week we continued talking about the wind.  We read the book One Windy Wednesday, a silly story about it being so windy that some farm animals lose their sounds!  We also read some poems from Eric Carle’s book, Animals, Animals.

Some of the children decided to make some things to hang on our “windy” bulletin board, so be sure to check that out if you get the chance.  We will keep working on this over the next few weeks!

Next week we will be talking about bears.  On Thursday, each child will need to bring a teddy bear with them to class.  We will be doing several activities with our bears, and awards will be given at the end of the day to each bear too!

Music Man

The last several weeks, we have had a special visitor during our Bible story.  Mr. Jack, the new children’s director at TCUMC has been dropping by with his guitar to teach us some new songs.  One of the Bees is quoted saying, “He rocks!!!”  I agree!

We are in need of some napkins for our snack time.  If you are able to donate a pack, we would appreciate it greatly!
