This week we discussed letter D.  When discussing our letter of the week we practicing writing the letter and listening to the sound the letter makes.  You can help at home by pointing out the beginning sounds of words to your child.  Being able to recognize beginning sounds will help down the road when your child is learning to read.  Our math focus is counting 1-30 and drawing shapes.

The Library

We had our first visit of the year to the Tipp Library.  Miss Julie shared stories about flying objects.  The children all did a great job walking to the library.  We look forward to our next visit.

Thank you, to the parents who said they can drive to Brukner on October 20.  Please remember to bring your child’s car seat into the church gathering area upstairs.  That is where we will meet before the trip so you can put the seat in the car your child will be traveling in.

Our Week

This week we discussed the letter C.  We learned that C has two different sounds, the hard c which sounds more like the letter k and soft c which sounds like the letter s.  We read the book Cookie’s Week.  We learned more about the days of the week as Cookie found trouble around her house.  We also practiced retelling a story using this book.

Library Visit

The Shining Stars will have their first visit to the library on Wednesday.  Please remember we walk rain or shine.  It is important that your child is dressed for the weather and is wearing shoes that will stay on their feet.

Name Writing

I encourage you to make time to practice name writing at home to enhance what we are doing at school.  When practicing remind your child that only the first letter should be upper case.  With just a little extra practice you can help your child master this skill.

What a great week!  This week we discussed the letter B and we made Brown Bears.  Our bears will be hanging outside of our class room next week.  We also had lots of fun in the studio creating “art” by using items we recycle.  If you have any items at home that you think we can use please let me know.

Show and Tell

The children are all doing a great job with show and tell.  Along with using clues and making predictions about what is in the bag we are learning how to ask questions.  Thanks for helping out by discussing the clues at home first.

Wednesday, October 6- Library Field Trip

The Shining Stars have had a very busy week. We discussed the letter A and we continued learning the routine and rules of our class. We had our first Bible Story time with the Busy Bees and tomorrow we will share our day with the Awesome Acorns as we discuss how God created the earth. On Tuesday, we had our first visit from Mrs. Oates a.k.a. The Story Lady. She shared two funny stories with us, we played a fun guessing game and we painted with smelly paints.

Show and Tell

Show and tell bags started going home today. Please encourage your child to bring an item that fits inside the bag. We play a guessing game and it is not as much fun if the show and tell item is not completely covered by the bag. The show and tell bag is always due back on the next school day.

Coming Up

Please remember next Tuesday and Wednesday is lunch bunch. Lunch bunch pick up time is 1:00.

This week we read Maisy Goes to Preschool, Ten Red Apples and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?  During morning meeting time we worked on name recognition, counting and days of the week.  Next week we start learning the alphabet with letter A.

Please remember if we dismiss from the play garden the Shining Stars will be picked up at the gate on Third Street.  Please wait by the Third Street gate for your child.  Having the groups separated makes pick up much easier.  Thanks in advance for your help with this.
